Description
Welshes Farm is an early 19th-century farmhouse located in Ashill, constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with a hipped slate roof. The building features a two-room, single-depth central staircase plan, with each floor heated by two internal rear lateral stacks, although one stack has been dismantled. The farmhouse has a three-storey rear lean-to that serves as a service room.
The front of the building is symmetrical with a three-window range. It has overhanging eaves and a cornice adorned with dentils. The second and third floors have identical hornless sash windows, with the central window having 12 panes and the outer windows having 16 panes each. On the ground floor, there are 16-pane hornless sash windows on either side of a doorway that has panelled reveals and soffit, with a panelled door topped by a rectangular overlight. The left and right sides of the building mirror each other, each featuring one 12-pane hornless sash window on each floor. The cornice extends to both ends of the building.
Although the interior has not been inspected, Welshes Farm stands out as a prominent feature in Ashill Village, showcasing a fashionable Georgian style that contrasts with the traditional cob-built structures in the area.
