Description

The Ashill Inn, formerly known as The New Inn, is a public house dated 1835. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings, with a plain tile gable end roof. Originally designed as a two-room, through-passage cottage, each room had a heating system with internal end stacks and brick shafts. The ground floor now comprises a single bar room. The building is two storeys high.

The symmetrical front elevation has a three-window arrangement; the first floor features two three-light casement windows on either side of a central two-light casement window. Below, three-light windows are positioned on either side of a central panelled door.

Inside, there are some unchamfered ceiling beams and fireplaces, each with an unchamfered wooden lintel. The roof structure consists of sawn principals, halved, crossed and pegged in the traditional manner. The Ashill Inn makes a positive contribution to the village street scene.
