Description

Drew's Farmhouse is a detached house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 16th century, with the possibility of a late medieval origin and later modifications. The building is constructed of roughcast stone and cob, with a brick end wall on the left, and features a gable-end thatched roof. The layout consists of a three-room, through-passage plan, with the higher end located to the right of the passage. At some point, the service end was shortened. The internal division between the hall and the inner room is made of cob, with lath and plaster above. The house is built using jointed cruck construction and has massive purlins, although the roof space is inaccessible, complicating the dating process. The hall is heated by an all-stone axial stack that backs onto the passage, while the inner room is heated by an internal end stack with a late 19th-century brick shaft.

The exterior features a four-window range, with three-light 19th-century casement windows on the first floor. A lean-to brick porch, which leads to the through passage, is located on the left-hand side due to the truncation of the service end. The hall and inner room have three-light casement windows, with a buttress between them, and there are no windows on the rear. Inside, the hall contains one full and two half-axial ceiling beams that are deeply chamfered with pyramid stops, along with a boxed axial ceiling beam in the inner room. Both rooms have blocked fireplaces. The roof reveals three large trusses beneath thick wallpaper, which are almost certainly side-pegged jointed crucks.
