Description

Old Bridge Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that may date back to the early 16th century, with later alterations. The building is constructed of cob with a stone plinth and roughcast finish, topped by a half-hipped and gabled-end thatched roof, while the lower-end extension has a corrugated iron roof. Originally, it had a three-room, cross-passage layout, with an axial stack that heats the hall, featuring a brick shaft. The farmhouse is two storeys high.

The front elevation has scattered fenestration with a five-window range, including two and three-light windows with 20th-century frames and casements. The entrance, which used to be the passage entrance, is now blocked and features a roughcast breezeblock porch under a tiled roof. At the rear, there is a stair turret beneath a catslide roof, with three two-light casement windows on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor.

The interior has been significantly altered, but four jointed crucks are visible in the roof space, which is ceiled. The former partition between the hall and parlour is indicated by a bressumer with mortices, and there may have been jettying of the lower-end into the hall. Two old doors remain, including one with fielded panels.
