Description
Pidgeon's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and features a gabled-end shingle roof. Originally designed as a three-room, through-passage plan house, the higher end is located to the left of the passage. The hall was initially open to the roof, and one truncated jointed cruck truss remains, which shows light smoke blackening. An inserted front lateral external stack, which is rendered but likely made of stone with a moulded cap, now heats the hall. The inner room was unheated, and the service end, which was not inspected internally, probably had a now dismantled end stack for heating.
The farmhouse has two storeys and features irregular fenestration on the front. All windows, which have PVC frames, are set within original embrasures. There are two windows on the first floor to the left of the stack, and one ground floor window alongside two additional windows to the left of the stack, as well as an entrance to the passage. A single-storey outbuilding is located at the service end. The rear of the building has been much altered, including a 20th-century wing added to the service end. Inside, the hall features one and a half ceiling beams with composite moulding that appears to be late 16th century, and one deeply chamfered unstopped beam, likely from the 17th century. The remains of the jointed cruck over the hall have been cut off below the collar and show light sooting.
