Description
St Anthony's and St Anthony's Cottage are two dwellings dating from the 17th century, with later extensions. They are constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and have a thatched roof, which is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. The original house features a two-room layout with a central cross-passage and has a later extension to the left, known as St Anthony's Cottage. The original structure has end stacks, with the left-hand stack now positioned axially, both featuring brick shafts. The stairs are located at the rear of the cross-passage.
The building is two storeys high and has a front with four windows. The later extension includes a two-light casement window on the first floor, with a door below it. The four windows of the original 17th-century house are all two-light casements set beneath eyebrow eaves. The ground floor windows have been replaced with late 20th-century casements and feature glazed porches with hipped thatched roofs. There is also a 20th-century extension at the rear.
Inside, there are two main rooms, each with chamfered ceiling beams that have scroll stops—three in the left-hand room and two in the right. The roof structure is complete from the 17th century, consisting of three pegged trusses, two of which are morticed at the apex while the other is halved and crossed. The collars are halved and pegged, with purlins resting on the principals, and the original rafters and battening are intact.
