Description

Cook's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that may date back to the 17th century but was completely remodeled and possibly rebuilt in the 19th century. It features plastered cob on stone footings, with some brick patching, and has a gabled-end roof covered with asbestos tiles. The original layout was a three-room through-passage plan with a rear wing attached to the inner room. There is a rear lateral external stack made of brick that appears to have been entirely rebuilt in the 19th century, while an external cob end stack for the rear wing is no longer visible. A lateral external stack for the rear wing likely replaced the end stack. There is also a stair turret located at the angle formed by the main range and the rear wing, along with a 19th-century brick lean-to at the back. The farmhouse has two storeys and a front elevation with a five-window range, featuring mostly 19th-century two- and three-light casement windows. A brick porch with a pantiled roof leads to the passage entrance. The rear has 19th-century three-light casement windows and another two-light window for the turret. The interior was not inspected, and the house was unoccupied during the resurvey visit in July 1985. Aside from the thatched roof, which was replaced in 1952, the house remains as it was when it was first listed.
