Description

Trevanin Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century farmhouse, with later alterations and additions. The exterior is roughcast cob set on stone footings, with a thatched roof, gabled at the right-hand end and hipped over a late 18th century extension to the left. Originally a two-room plan with a through-passage, the house has a rear wing and an outshut. There are end stacks, with a brick shaft on the left now running axially. The front of the original house is a symmetrical three-window range, with large two-light casement windows and a central, hipped, thatched open porch. A later extension to the left has a two-light casement window to the first floor and a single-light window below. The first floor windows are set under shallow eyebrow eaves, and the casements are largely from the late 19th century. The rear wing retains the single original window (first floor, at the end), which is of three lights with chamfered mullions and surround. Other rear windows are 2- and 3-light casements dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. Inside, the main rooms have deeply chamfered cross ceiling beams. The later left-hand extension is now open to the roof, revealing one A-frame truss and a large upright support, likely from the late 20th century.
