Plymtree United Reform Church Churchyard Walls And Gateway

The Plymtree United Reform Church churchyard walls and gateway date from around 1850 and are likely contemporary with the church itself. The walls are constructed from grey limestone laid in courses, featuring cast iron railings, a gate, and an overthrow. The low wall surrounds the south and west sides of the churchyard, curving around to include the gateway. The gateposts are plain with a square section and soffit-chamfered caps. The wrought iron overthrow is decorated with scrolls and includes an ornate lamp bracket. The gate has plain rails and is topped with an ornate fleur-de-lys crest. Originally, there were low cast iron railings similar to the gate, but these have been replaced by a hedge, although short lengths of the original railings remain on either side of the gateway.
