Description
The lych gate, churchyard walls, gate piers, and gate located on the south side of the Church of St Phillack date from the early 19th century for the walls and the late 19th century for the lych gate, which was rebuilt in the 20th century due to road widening. The churchyard wall is constructed from coursed copper slag blocks with copings, while the lych gate features granite rubble with granite dressings and has a hipped dry slate roof with gablets. The lych gate has a rectangular plan and its side walls are buttressed at the front (west). To the east of the lych gate, there is a coffin rest. Another gateway towards the east end of the wall has square-on-plan gate piers that front high churchyard retaining walls, leading to a wide entrance with a flight of seven steps. The east gateway includes a 19th-century wrought-iron gate with scrolled detail and original wrought-iron handrails on turned balusters above each coped side wall.
