Description

The Bucket of Blood is an 18th-century public house, possibly with earlier origins. It is constructed of painted rubble with a steep, originally grouted scantle slate roof, now covered with asbestos slate on the rear wing. Brick chimneys rise from the gable ends and the left-hand side wall. The building has an L-shaped plan with a 19th-century outshut at the rear angle. Originally, it likely comprised four rooms on the ground floor, though the layout has been remodelled in the 20th century. The front (north-east) elevation is almost symmetrical with three windows, featuring late 19th or 20th-century horned sashes. A former doorway, now a window, is centrally positioned but grouped towards the right. The left-hand side wall, facing the road, has an irregular three-window front, with a doorway to the left and a wide window opening to the right. The interior retains old ceilings and some 18th-century beams, alongside some 19th-century beams. The first floor and roof structure were not inspected.
