Description
Buckhurst is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with a stone rubble or cob stack topped with 20th-century brick, and features a thatched roof. The cottage has a small two-room layout facing south, with an axial stack located between the rooms that serves the right (east) room.
The exterior presents an irregular two-window front. The right side windows are late 19th to early 20th-century casements with glazing bars, which are larger than the others, with the first-floor window being a half dormer. The ground floor left window is a late 17th-century oak flat-faced mullion window, while the first-floor window is contemporary, possibly slightly earlier, with a chamfered mullion. Both of these windows contain rectangular panes of leaded glass, and the original iron casement of the ground floor window features an ornate catch. The front doorway is located at the left end and includes a 20th-century plank door beneath a contemporary hood supported by curving brackets. The roof is half-hipped at both ends.
The interior was not available for inspection during the survey, but it is suspected to contain original 17th-century carpentry details.
