Description
11 The Square is a cottage located in Witheridge, dating from the 17th century with 19th-century alterations, including changes to the windows. The exterior is roughcast and whitewashed, likely built on a rubble core, and features a hipped straw-thatched roof, with a parallel range to the right covered in asbestos sheeting. The cottage has a long rectangular shape, originally consisting of two rooms on the ground floor, which were later combined by removing the dividing wall. The rear room includes a corner fireplace. There is a shallow, modern addition on the right side, which now serves as the main entrance. The main part of the cottage is two storeys high with a single bay, featuring a two-light casement window with glazing bars on each floor. The addition has a casement window on the first floor and a modern half-glazed door on the ground floor. Inside, the ground floor has unchamfered ceiling beams, and the corner fireplace has a wood unchamfered bressumer. The roof is likely from the 18th century.
