Description
The gate piers, gates, and railings bounding the south side of the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist in Witheridge were built in 1833. They feature a low rubble plinth with freestone capping, spear-capped railings set into leaded mortises, and stanchions with scrolled supporting brackets. There are two gateways with tall panelled freestone piers topped with ball caps and similar wrought-iron gates. A further gateway was added around 1920 when a war memorial was erected in the churchyard. A datestone near the main gateway reads "ANNO DOMINI MD CCC XXX III."
