Description

The premises occupied by National Westminster Bank, located on the west side of High Street, date back to the early 19th century. This three-storey building features a stucco façade, a parapet with coping, and a gable end slate roof, with slate hanging on the sides. The upper floors have two windows, with recessed tripartite sashes on the second floor that have later glazing. The first floor boasts two canted bays, also with later glazing, and moulded cornices. The ground floor has an early 20th-century Neo-Georgian bank front that projects onto the pavement. It is constructed of red brick and features broad stone architraves with keystones above the three central windows, as well as similar stone doorcases at each end. A stone hood is supported on cut stone brackets, and there is a deep stone frieze and cornice with a blocking course that returns to the original elevation. This building is part of a group that includes the premises occupied by Potbury and Sons Ltd and LadySmith House Antiques.
