Description

The National Westminster Bank, formerly a house, is located at No. 2 Brook Street in Manningtree. This building dates from the 18th century or earlier and has undergone later alterations. It features a red tiled roof that is hipped to the right, with flat-headed dormers on both road faces. There is an off-centre red brick chimney stack at the High Street end and another stack on the Brook Street side. The building has two storeys and attics.

On the High Street face, there is a plastered parapet with a band underneath and a central band. It has five small-paned vertically sliding sash windows on the first floor, all with gauged brick arches, and two similar windows on the ground floor to the right. The left side has a 20th-century bank front with seven bays, featuring cement composition pilasters, windows in between, and a door located in the sixth bay.

On the Brook Street return, there is a dentilled eaves cornice, two first-floor vertically sliding sash windows, and one ground-floor sash window, all with gauged brick arches. A recessed door is located off-centre to the right and is approached by steps, with brackets supporting the gutter.
