Description
No. 5 High Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from around 1840. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a slate hipped roof with gabled ends, lead rolls at the hips on a curved corner, and deep eaves supported by shaped soffit brackets. Gault brick stacks are located on the sides.
The building has a double depth plan and is situated on a corner site. It is two storeys tall with an asymmetrical three-bay front that is divided by brick pilasters. The right-hand bay is blind, while the left-hand bay is wider and curves around the corner. The ground floor has a 20th-century boarded shop front with a corner doorway, a flat fascia board, and an additional doorway on the right. On the first floor, there is a blind window on the right, and the centre and left bays feature 19th-century 12-pane sash windows, with the left window bowing around the corner. The left-hand (west) return has two bays, with the right bay being blind and the left bay containing two narrow 20th-century windows on the first floor. There is also a 20th-century brick extension at the rear.
The interior has not been inspected.
