Description
Manningtree Gallery and O.G. Thorpe & Son, Butchers, located on the south side of Manningtree High Street, is a former house that has been converted into two shops. The building dates back to the early 16th century or earlier, with additions and alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as later changes. It features a timber frame with plastering and has red plain tiled roofs. There is a red brick chimney stack located off-center on the rear, along with rear wings. The structure is two stories tall with attics and cellars.
The front of the building has three flat-headed dormers with vertically sliding sashes and a moulded eaves cornice. There is a six-window range of small-paned vertically sliding sashes with moulded surrounds. To the right on the ground floor, there are three similar windows, and a 20th-century double door is approached by steps with iron handrails situated between the central and second windows. To the left, there is a 20th-century shop window, a boarded door with a top light, and a blocked fanlight above. Inside, moulded bridging joists run through the front of the building. This property is likely part of the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, reference 9/142.
