Description

The buildings at 10 and 12 South Street in Manningtree are a pair of shops, dating from the 18th century, though they may have earlier origins. They are constructed of red brick, with plastered gable returns, and have a central rear red brick chimney stack. The building extends over three storeys, includes attics, and has a cellar. It features a moulded eaves cornice and bands delineating the upper and lower windows. The front has a two-window range of small-paned vertically sliding sash windows, with attic windows in the return gables. The shop to the right (No. 10) has an angled and bowed bay window of five lights with a central transom, and a door to the left with two vertical lights. The shop to the left (No. 12) features a small-paned bow window alongside a panelled door with a simple surround and a gauged brick arch.
