Description

These two shops, originally occupied by H. Piper & S. Priom, Opthalmic Opticians and Manningtree Jewellers, likely date back to the 17th century or earlier, although they have 18th and 19th-century features. The front of the building is plastered brick, topped by a red plain tiled roof where central, large brick chimney stacks rise. The building is two storeys high with attics, featuring two dormers with two windows each. The first floor has five small-paned, vertically sliding sash windows. The shop fronts are from the 19th century. To the left is a three-light window with side pilasters, capitals, a frieze, and a moulded pediment, topped by a fascia and flat canopy. To the right are two similar windows, with a central door and a right-hand double door, all beneath a continuous fascia and canopy. Reveal panels are present to the right-hand door.
