Description
No. 47 High Street is a shop with a flat above, dating from the mid-18th century and later. The building is constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick, topped with a roof of black-glazed pantiles. It stands two storeys high with a dormer attic, featuring two window bays. The late 19th-century shop front is made of plate glass and includes a deep display passage leading to the entrance door, which has been much renewed in the 20th century. The first floor is illuminated by two sash windows that have horizontal and vertical margin glazing. The building has a mansard roof with one flat-topped dormer fitted with a 4/8 sash window. There are internal gable-end stacks at both the north and south ends. At the rear, there is a two-storey cross-wing that is rendered and whitewashed, with late 20th-century casement windows. Additionally, there is a single-storey gault-brick addition extending to the east. The interior of the ground floor has little of interest, and the upper floors have not been inspected.
