Description
The premises occupied by Potbury and Sons Limited is an early 19th-century building located on the west side of High Street. It is three stories tall with a five-window facade, finished in stucco. The roof has a low pitch and is covered with slate, featuring wide eaves supported by shaped brackets. A moulded sill course runs along the second floor. The second-floor windows are recessed sashes with intact glazing bars, while the ground floor features two Victorian shop fronts. The left shop front is larger and more elaborate, showcasing an 8-light window with canted side lights, divided by colonettes with foliate bases and caps. Above it is a frieze with modillions beneath a heavy cornice decorated with leaves. This cornice extends over the doors on either side, one of which is glazed and the other consists of six panels, both topped with rectangular fanlights and flanked by heavy scrolled brackets supporting the frieze. The right shop front is a large canted bay with its own frieze and moulded cornice. The premises occupied by Potbury and Sons Limited, along with the premises occupied by LadySmith House Antiques, form a group.
