Description

The Old School House is a cottage dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame with colourwashed brick noggings, a brick front on the north side, and a stone gable on the west. The building has a thatched roof and is single storey with an attic, consisting of three bays, including a narrow bay at the west end that likely served as a lobby entry. The entrance is now located in the west bay, which is behind an external baffle and has a thatched porch. The framing consists of three panels high with corner braces and jowled posts. There are canted oriel windows with tiled roofs and diamond leading. The front elevation includes a gable over the living room, which features a similar oriel window on the first floor. The roof is half-hipped at the ends and over the gable, and there is a shaped brick stack. Inside, there is a timber-framed partition between the left bay and the living room, along with chamfered spine beams.
