Description

Blackwells Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century. It is constructed of colourwashed sarsen stone with brick dressings, and the wing is timber framed, though mostly replaced with brick. The roof is thatched. The building is single storey with attics, featuring two bays and a gable half-bay for the lobby entry and stack, along with a cross wing beyond the stack that also has two bays. There are lean-to extensions on the left side and at the rear. The entrance is located in a 20th-century addition at the rear, which likely covers the original lobby entry. The windows are timber casements set within cambered head openings, and there is a wide flush dormer on the first floor. The roof is half hipped to the right and extends over the forward gable. Inside, there is a large chalkstone stack in the original hall, with two spine beams that bear on a timber framed partition, which has now been opened up to the inner bay on the right.
