Description
Rose Cottage, Byways, and Church View are a group of three cottages situated in a row, with their gable facing the street. The core of the cottages dates to the 17th century and are constructed of timber framing with brick noggings and brickwork, covered by a thatched roof. Rose Cottage, on the left, is a 20th-century addition and is not of significant architectural interest.
Byways, the central cottage, is one bay wide and two storeys high with an attic. It features a lateral boarded door and timber casement windows. The ground floor is brick, while the upper floor is timber-framed and divided into three panels. A small dormer window is also present.
Church View, on the right, is a one-and-a-half bay lobby-entry plan cottage, with a rear one-and-a-half bay wing added in the 19th century. It has a boarded door, a simple bracketed canopy over the entrance, paired timber windows, and a canted oriel window to the right. Much of the original timber framing at Church View has been replaced. The roof is half-hipped facing the street. The rear of the cottages has been much renewed in the 20th century, and a lean-to porch has been added. The group is listed primarily for their group value.
