Description
Skeate and the adjacent monument are two chest tombs located in the churchyard southeast of the Lady Chapel at the Church of St Mary. They date from the 18th to early 19th century and are made of limestone. The tomb to the east, dating around 1830, features a moulded and hipped table with side panels that have fluted tops between recessed pilasters, and a central floral scroll. The end pilasters are incised, and it is dedicated to William Skeate, although the date is not visible. The tomb to the west has a corniced table with recessed corner pilasters and a central draped urn in relief between the side panels, but the inscription is illegible.
