Description
Nos 2 and 4 St Thomas's Square are two-storey buildings with origins dating back to the 17th or early 18th century, although they were refronted in the late 18th or early 19th century. The exterior is stuccoed and features a hipped old tile roof with flat eaves supported by paired flat brackets. There are five windows on the first floor, one of which is blind, with recessed sashes and intact glazing bars, set lower to the right. The ground floor has a modern shop front on the left side, while the right side features an early 19th-century double shop front with nine-pane windows flanking a door, which has been altered. A 19th-century four-panel door with a rectangular fanlight is set in a surround of Doric pilasters and an entablature. Inside, the roof structure retains remains of 17th or 18th-century trusses. Nos 2 and 4 form a group with Nos 28-28A Market Place (Cheese Market).
