Description

This milestone, located opposite Noremarsh Road, dates from after 1821 and is made of limestone. It features incised inscriptions that have been repainted but are out of register. The hexagonal head indicates a distance of 28 miles to Bath. On the left side of the oval stem, it shows a distance of 5 miles to Swindon. The right side lists distances of 1 mile to Wootton Bassett and 15 miles to Chippenham. Additionally, it notes a distance of 35 miles to Oxford on the foot of the milestone.
