Description

This is an 18th-century sandstone milestone located on the west side of Chippenham Road in Lyneham, opposite No. 85 (Post Office). The milestone has an oval stem with a hexagonal face at the top. It is inscribed with the following details: "BATH 23 MILES" on the face, and on the stem, it reads "TO WOOTTON BASSETT 4 MILES TO SWINDON 10 MILES." Additionally, the right side of the stem indicates "TO CHIPPENHAM 10 MILES."
