Description

This milestone is located on the north side of the carriageway at Wootton Bassett Road in Lyneham. It is made of sarsen stone and features a hexagonal faced head, a half oval sectioned stem, and a rectangular base. The back of the milestone is peck dressed. The inscriptions on the head indicate that Bath is 25 miles away. The stem shows distances to Wootton Bassett (3 miles), Swindon (9 miles), and Chippenham (11 miles), while the base states that Oxford is 39 miles away.
