Description

This milestone, located on Lyneham Road in Wootton Bassett, dates from after 1821 and is made of sarsen stone with a painted finish. It features a hexagonal top face, a half oval stem, and a base. The inscriptions include "To BATH 26 Miles" on the top, "To WOOTTON BASSETT 2 Miles. To SWINDON 8 Miles" on the left side of the stem, "To CHIPPENHAM 12 Miles" on the right side, and "To OXFORD 38 Miles" on the foot. It also includes a bench mark.
