Description
This milestone, located about 100 meters east of Townsends Garage on the north side of the main road in Christian Malford, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is made of ashlar stone and features a flat-fronted base and top on a curved-fronted stem. The base is inscribed with "To Oxford 44 miles," while the stem has inscriptions indicating distances: "To Wootton Bassett 8 miles" and "To Swindon 14 miles" on the left, and "To Chippenham 6 miles" on the right. The top face is hexagonal and bears the inscription "To Bath 19 miles."
