Description
The Christian Malford War Memorial Cross is located in a small kerbed area on a triangular grass sward in the center of the village, near the Medieval Cross in the Garden of Croscote and opposite the Old Malt House.
Standing approximately 2.9 meters tall, the memorial features a rough-hewn wheel-head cross mounted on a tall, rectangular shaft that rises from a tapering plinth and a single-stepped base. It is made of Cornish granite. The front face of the cross head is decorated with carved interlace patterns and a hemispherical boss at the intersection of the cross arms.
The main dedicatory inscription is in applied metal lettering on the front face of the plinth, which reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN THANKFUL AND HONOURED/ MEMORY OF OUR OWN WHO FOUGHT AND/ FELL IN THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR/ 1914 - 1919/ (12 NAMES)/ “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.”
A later dedication for the Second World War, which includes the years 1939 - 1945 and (3 NAMES), is inscribed on the right-hand face of the plinth.
