Description

The Old Malt House is a house dated 1673, constructed of rubble stone with Bridgwater tile and stone slate roofs. The original structure was built with a gable facing north, and features a large chimney gable on its west side. The north gable is coped with a saddlestone and bears an apex plaque inscribed “FH 1673”. An attic window is located here, alongside a three-light window on the first floor, which has a hoodmould, and an early 19th-century, large 24-pane sash window on the ground floor. Flush quoins are present. To the left, a smaller gable adjoins, featuring a similar three-light window on the first floor and a 24-pane sash window on the ground floor. The original range has a two-light window on the west side, to the right of the chimney stack, and a brick addition to the south, with a half-hipped south gable. A smaller parallel range adjoins to the east, showcasing an east-side stack, a door, and a two-light window above. The south end addition is constructed of painted brick. A large brick stack is situated in the valley between the two southern additions.
