Description

Noremarsh House is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with ashlar quoins and features a hipped stone slate roof with three hipped dormers. The house has a three-bay, two-storey layout with an attic, a central hallway, and a rear stair tower. There are stacks on the rear walls of the lateral rooms, and 19th-century rear wings have been added. The facade is rendered and includes a central framed porch with a low pitched gable supported by elaborate carved brackets, all resting on a stone moulded sill. The entrance features a six-panelled rounded-head door set within moulded architraves and carved spandrels, which are likely 17th-century elements brought in from another location. The windows consist of 16-pane sashes arranged in six bays, with the windows on the return blocked and timber casements in the dormers. Inside, there is a large central hall and an open well stair with a panelled dado and turned balusters, along with chamfered axial ceiling beams. Opposite the porch, there are rusticated gate piers topped with ball finials. The house is reputedly linked to the wool trade, as indicated by a pulley wheel found in the roof.
