Description
The milestone at Chirton crossroads dates from the 1760s and early 19th century. It is made of fossiliferous limestone and has a square block shape with a slightly rounded top. The stone features an incised inscription that is now partly worn away. Attached to the top is a square cast iron plate, likely from the early 19th century, which reads: DEVIZES / 5 MILES / EVERLEIGH / 9 / ANDOVER / 21.
