Description

Chirton Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located on the south side of The Street in Chirton. The exterior is painted roughcast over brickwork, and the roof is thatched. The cottage is single-storied with an attic, originally comprising two bays, with a further half bay at the right end housing the entrance. This entrance has a six-panelled door protected by a flat timber canopy with a panelled soffit supported by shaped brackets. The windows are paned, with a canted bay window in the centre and a wider bay, now a living room. A sixteen-pane sash window is located at the rear. Inside, the living room features a chamfered spine beam. A chalkstone stack includes a chamfered timber fire lintel, although the jambs have been rebuilt in brick. An 18th-century cupboard front is found in the passage beside the stack, leading to a bay behind the stack which is now the kitchen. Shutters are present on a rear window.
