Description
The barn at Chirton Farm is a 18th-century structure located in the village street, north of the farmhouse. It features a timber frame and is weather-boarded with elm on the north and east sides, while the other sides have been replaced with pine. The barn has a thatched roof, which is hipped at the north end and quarter-hipped at the south. It consists of four bays with aisles at the rear and the north end. There are cart doors in the second bay from the north, with thatch extending over the doors to the aisle at the rear. Inside, the barn has posts with straight braces connecting to tie beams, principal rafters, and collars, along with two tiers of butt purlins. The longitudinal joints are halved, and the trusses are numbered starting from the north.
