Description

Nos 3 and 4 on Castle Street are mid-18th century buildings that stand two stories tall, constructed from painted brick and topped with a double Roman tile roof. The facade features a window arrangement of two plus one plus one, with rustic chamfered voussoirs. On the first floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows to the left, while the remaining windows are plate glass sashes. The buildings include two mid-19th century shop fronts, which have panelled pilasters, a moulded cornice, fascia brackets, and a recessed central door to the right. The left shop front is particularly notable for its reeded pilasters and a doorway to the left. There is a throughway passage on the left that showcases rustic quoins and voussoirs. The gable end of No 3 reveals some exposed timber in the gable. Nos 1 to 6, including 5A, form a group with these buildings.
