Description
16 Fore Street is a late 17th century or early 18th century building with a severely buckled front made of painted brick, featuring flanking stone quoins. It stands three storeys high and has three ranges of glazing bar sash windows, which have wide raised surrounds with beaded inner edges and moulded outer edges. The building is topped with a stone moulded eaves cornice and a roof covered in double roman tiles. There is a thin moulded string course above the first floor. The late 19th century shop front includes a recessed central entrance and an overall fascia with modillions at the fascia cornice. A lead rainwater pipe with a conical head is located to the right. The rear of the building features timber lintels and an attic mansard, along with a two-storey brick extension. Inside, there are remains of panelling on the second floor, and a cellar and well below. Nos 13 to 18 Fore Street form a group, with No 18 being of local interest.
