Linhay On South West Side Of South West Farmyard At Edginswell Farm

The linhay on the south-west side of the south-west farmyard at Edginswell Farm dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from local red sandstone rubble and features a corrugated-iron roof that is hipped at the right end, adjoining a cider house and cartshed on the left. The linhay has a loft and consists of two bays plus a link bay connected to the adjoining building on the left.

The exterior is plain yet substantial, with broad stone piers that separate the open-fronted bays, which also have an open-fronted loft above. The rear elevation includes a pair of large double doors leading into the bay next to the adjoining building. Inside, there are brick feeding troughs and some timber mangers still in place. The loft floor is open at the rear, allowing hay to be dropped into feeding racks, and the floor is made of brick. The roof features pegged 'A'-frame trusses that reflect the late 18th or early 19th-century style.
