Description

The shippon and cider house at the west end of the northeast farmyard at Edginswell Farmhouse is an early 19th-century building constructed from cob on local stone rubble footings, topped with a corrugated-iron roof that was formerly thatched. The roof is hipped at the left end and connects to a threshing barn on the right. The building has a long rectangular plan with a doorway located to the left of center on the front. It widens to the right where it meets the barn, having been used as a cider house.

The exterior features a single storey and a loft. The doorway has a timber lintel, with a small unglazed window to the left and a larger unglazed window to the right. The front of the cider house also includes an unglazed window. There is a loft door to the left and two loft windows to the right. Notably, there are four depressions in the cob at loft level that may have served as bee holes.

Inside, there is a rear feeding passage and a large screw-press cider press located in the cider house. The roof is supported by eight pegged 'A'-frame trusses with butt collars. This building is part of a significant group of traditional agricultural structures.
