Description
The Cider House, located about 60 metres west of Southwood Farmhouse, is a cider house probably dating from the late 17th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of stone and cob, topped with a corrugated iron roof that is gabled at both ends, likely originally thatched. The building has a rectangular plan and is partly lofted, featuring a screw cider press at the right end.
On the exterior, there are three doorways on the front; the left-hand doorway has brick jambs, there are steps leading up to the central doorway, and a larger doorway is positioned on the right. Inside, the structure includes two face-pegged jointed crucks at the right end, although the collars have been replaced. At the left end, there are two later trusses with straight principals and halved collars. The Cider House holds group value with Southwood Farmhouse and two other 17th-century farm buildings.
