Description
Dorf Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and stone, topped with a thatched roof that has gables at both ends and a stack on the right end. The cottage has a single depth, two-room plan, featuring a heated room on the right and an entrance into the unheated room on the left. There is a 20th-century addition at the right end.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical front with two windows. To the left of the centre, there is a 20th-century lean-to, and the windows are fitted with 20th-century timber casements.
Inside, the right-hand room includes an open fireplace with a granite lintel, chamfered jambs, and a brick-lined bread oven. The room features a chamfered crossbeam with step-stops and exposed joists, some of which are moulded. The left end room has a rough crossbeam.
The apex of the roof was not inspected, but the principal rafters appear to be straight. The cottage has group value with several early houses in Dry Lane.
