Description
The linhay at Fenacre Farm is a structure dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the later 19th century. It is built from local stone rubble and features a thatched roof that has been re-clad in corrugated iron, along with gabled ends. The linhay is a long, seven-bay range with an open front and stands two storeys high, supported by square piers at the front. The cattle shelters have been blocked off to create cow houses, but the lofts above remain open-fronted. An addition to the right-hand (east) end includes a dairy, and there is a later single-storey outshut at the back (north).
Inside, the original roof structure includes lapped and pegged collar trusses, with common rafters set horizontally like purlins to eliminate the need for thatching battens. Some thatch still remains at the front. This linhay is a good and largely complete example of a Devon linhay.
