Description
The limekilns at Burlescombe Westleigh are likely from the early 19th century. They are constructed from local stone rubble with some brick. There is a row of three adjacent limekilns built into the front of a steep southeast-facing hillside. All three are raked out from the front and feature segmental-headed outer arches leading to the raking out holes, which are blocked to the circular brick-lined kiln vats. The kiln at the right end may be a later addition, as its front is set at a slightly different angle and has a brick vault in the raking chamber, unlike the others. These limekilns are part of a group located near the Westleigh Quarry, which continues to produce limestone.
