Description

The limekilns, likely built in the early 19th century, are constructed from local stone rubble with some brick. They are situated on a steep south-east facing slope and consist of a pair of adjacent limekilns that are both raked out from the front. Each kiln features a segmental-headed outer arch, but the left kiln steps down and inwards, incorporating a second inner arch for the raking out hole. Behind the blocked raking out holes are circular brick-lined kiln vats. The kilns could be loaded from a terrace along the top. These limekilns are part of a group located near Westleigh Quarry, which continues to produce limestone.
