Description

SY6784 DORCHESTER ROAD, Upwey 873-1/7/655 (East side) Gate piers and boundary walls to No.708 Yew Tree Cottage

GV II

Gate piers with attached boundary walls. Early C19. Dressed limestone piers, squared rubble walls. A pair of piers approx 0.45m square, in banded dressed stone, alternate courses being rock-faced. The square cappings have a moulded edge above a cut-down frieze incorporating remains of triglyphs, plus ball finials on shaped bases. The piers are approx 1.7m high, spaced approx 2m apart, with a later wooden barred gate. To each side is a short quadrant of wall to approx 1.5m height, in coursed rubble and with on-edge copings, brought to the rear edge of the pavement.
