Description
The gate piers and boundary walls to Number 708 Yew Tree Cottage are early 19th-century structures located on the east side of Dorchester Road in Upwey, Weymouth. The gate piers are made of dressed limestone and are accompanied by squared rubble walls. Each pier measures approximately 0.45 meters square and features banded dressed stone, with alternating courses that are rock-faced. The square cappings of the piers have a moulded edge above a cut-down frieze that incorporates remains of triglyphs, topped with ball finials on shaped bases. The piers stand about 1.7 meters high and are spaced approximately 2 meters apart, with a later wooden barred gate between them. On either side of the gate, there is a short quadrant of wall that reaches about 1.5 meters in height, constructed from coursed rubble and topped with on-edge copings, extending to the rear edge of the pavement.
