Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a detached house located on Dorchester Road in Upwey. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and early to mid 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble with a rendered south-facing range and features tile roofs. It is set back from the road and has its gable end facing Dorchester Road. The main structure is a plain range, accompanied by an L-plan building parallel to it and a later brick range added to the rear, creating a Z-plan layout.
The house has two storeys and a symmetrical front, which includes two hipped canted plain sash bays and a central 20th-century window above a 19th-century door with a plain transom light, all set in deep reveals with a keystone. The bays likely replaced earlier windows, as the plinth does not extend to cover the projections. Gable stacks are present on the roof. The earlier rear block features a three-light casement window at eaves level with 18th-century leading, situated above another three-light window. This L-plan unit also has two additional stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
