Description

The British Legion House, formerly known as the Old School, is a former school building that now serves as a British Legion Hall. It was built in 1834 and extended to the rear before 1850. The structure features rubblestone walls and a slate roof adorned with ornamental bargeboards. There is a brick stack at the left end of the main block. The original building has an L-shaped plan with a projecting wing at the right end and stands two storeys tall.

In the wing, there is a battened door beneath a slightly cambered stone lintel, with a date stone positioned above it. On the first floor of the wing, there is one casement window with cast iron lattice glazing, also under a slightly cambered stone lintel. A single-storey lean-to is located on the left side of the wing. In the main range, there is a ledged door, and the ground floor features one sash window with glazing bars. The first floor has two similar sash windows.

The main front boundary wall is constructed of rubble stone and topped with cock and hen coping. To the right of this wall, there are iron railings with shaped tops and scroll brackets for the gate posts, although the gates are missing.
